Ida Romero Scholarship 2012

The Ida Romero Memorial Scholarship has been created in memory of an extraordinary woman and contributor to the University of New Mexico.

As a single mother, Ida Romero worked full-time and put herself through college at UNM. In 1985, Ida received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Three years later, in 1988, she received her Master’s degree in Fine Arts. Ida was very involved in the university and in the community.

In 1995, Ida was appointed Director of UNM’s Student Financial Aid Office. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and fought to beat it to the very end. Those who knew Ida were impressed with her strength, dedication, artistic ability, natural beauty and love for life.
